Greg Rowland MBE

England

Greg Rowland owns and runs a wheelwrighting and coachbuilding business in Devon in the UK. He learned the trade from his father Mike; however, his family are traced in the trade back to 1331.

Training initially as a blacksmith, Greg supported his father’s business as he gradually learned the craft by way of an informal apprenticeship. By the age of 25, he was making all the wheels in the shop, while his father Mike concentrated on vehicles. In 2005, Mike Rowland & Son gained the Royal Warrant of Approval to HM Queen Elizabeth II and Greg was made a Master Wheelwright in 2010. He is a liveryman with the Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights and received the MBE in 2022 for his services to Heritage Craft. Greg’s apprentice, Sam Phillips, has just passed his apprenticeship in the craft.

Mike Rowland & Son make all kinds of wooden wheels and are passionate about quality, the craft of wheelwrighting and making it sustainable for the future.
