To lose an indigenous craft is to lose part of our history, our culture, our link to the past – Studio Donegal

To ensure that the local traditional craft of hand weaving was preserved in South West Donegal after the introduction of mechanised weaving in the 1960’s, Studio Donegal was established in 1979 under the stewardship of Kevin Donaghy. Since then it has passed on to the next generation. Tristan Donaghy and his wife Anne now own and manage this small mill in Kilcar, Co Donegal and under their direction, the same passion for the continuation of a heritage craft remains. Here the famous Donegal tweed is still woven on looms dating over 100 years old, and a collection of ladies and gents garments, hats and scarves are made in-house from tweed exclusively woven in the mill. Combining traditional methods with artistic design, they also produce a colourful and creative range of throws and cushions.
